RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS (RSV) IN CHILDREN: PREVENTION OF COMPLICATIONS AND GUIDANCE FOR CAREGIVERS

The pediatric infection caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) constitutes a
matter of utmost relevance and a persistent challenge for public health, especially in
contexts marked by social inequality, which hinder access to essential information
regarding the prevention and early identification of complex clinical presentations. In
light of the trivialization of warning symptoms and the public utility of the topic, this
investigation sought to understand the influence of knowledge level on the ability to
recognize risk-indicating signs and to act preventively against the pathogen. To
achieve this objective, an integrative literature review was conducted, grounded in a
qualitative perspective and developed from a meticulous screening of articles,
dissertations, and theses available in bibliographic databases and indexing platforms.
Through the analysis of previous scientific contributions, the persistence of knowledge
gaps among caregivers was identified, particularly among those situated in

socioeconomically vulnerable contexts, which contributes to significant delays in
seeking medical assistance and consequently increases morbidity rates. The results
also demonstrated that educational approaches employing accessible language
facilitate comprehension and family adherence to guidance. This study transcends the
clinical sphere and invites us to reflect: are we truly supporting caregivers in the
practice of child care, or merely assuming they already possess the competence to do
so?
